How it all began
I started writing when I was eight or nine years old, mostly short stories and paragraph fragments here and there. It took some time, but I amassed a collection of random stories based on other people’s universes and characters, as well as characters of my own creation.
In 1995, I acquired the Internet and discovered the world of anime and fanfiction. Little did I know they would later spark the ideas for the first official title of HANGA Shousetsu.
A wacky start
The idea of gender-bending, which was a common theme in anime, intrigued me. What kind of results would come about for somebody with gender-bending qualities?
I wrote the first draft of WACKY No Jinsei that same year, starting with three chapters for the first volume, and then expanding with two more for a follow-up, and then another 12 for a third volume (to explain the inconsistent chapter amounts per volume – I was young and had no sense of what entailed a full RAINOBE). Later that same year, I started the first draft of Saisekijou Senshi.
The evolution of HANSHOU
Several revisions of series and changes to our group name later, HANGA Shousetsu was finally born in 2008. However, a formal presence wasn’t unveiled until now: 2010.
The two-year preparation period gave us enough time to find a new direction and put some miscellaneous creative writing under our belts. We decided to go with a new business model, and thanks to social media, we’re able to reach a wider audience than ever before.
Welcome to the future of HANGA Shousetsu.
